PERVIOUS CONCRETE

Today in both residential and commercial construction many building projects are built using sustainable construction materials such as pervious concrete and they have built in sustainability, including sustainable heating, cooling and energy use.  Pervious concrete is pourous, allowing rain/storm water to filter through to the ground below. In many instances it lowers or excludes the requirement for expensive drainage pond systems. The pockets in the concrete permit water to drain back into the water aquifer.

In the Southwest, such as places like Santa Fe, NM, it rains on the average of 11 to 13 inches per year. Because there’s little rain fall and lots of dust and sand in the air, pervious concrete requires on-going maintenance. Installed correctly it is a great long term solution which reduces costs and solves water drainage requirements really well.
